The TeddyBears featuring Iggy Pop

At 60 Iggy is sporting herion chic like it was still in style and the TeddyBears are just out there in happy-phun-time land.

Wanna Get High?

Having yellow teeth in Siberia may have nothing to do with not brushing one’s teeth…

A type of mushroom called Amanita muscaria grows in some parts of Siberia, and it contains a cocktail of hallucinogenic chemicals. One who consumes the sun-dried mushrooms will usually experience euphoria and hallucinations, but one will also experience a host of unpleasant side-effects, such as nausea, twitching, and an increase sweat and saliva output.

Most of the unwanted side effects can be avoided by putting the mushrooms through a special filter: a human. In the Koryak tribe in Siberia it is customary for an individual who consumes the mushrooms to save his or her urine in a pot for others to drink

The mushrooms’ active ingredients are not metabolized by the body so they are excreted into the urine, but the chemicals which cause the unwanted side effects are filtered out by the kidneys. It is said that the potency of the mushroom does not decrease significantly until about the seventh time through.

But not everybody who imbibes urine is doing so for psychoactive pleasure-seeking. Many people drink it because they believe it makes them look and feel healthier, or sometimes because it’s their last resort for survival.

Found on “Damn Interesting” a great site about, uh, Interesting stuff.

I’d like to introduce Cookie!

Cookie is a 2 year old female and she is full of spunk. Our incumbent pug Winston is not sure what to make of interloper…

As luck would have it our furnace died on Friday night leaving us with no heat. I called a heating tech and he promptly condemned our 20 year old furnace because of corrosion around the heat exchanger that could potentially leak deadly
carbon monoxide into the house… Goody.

We are having a new furnace installed on Monday but until then its sweater and long johns time, this morning it was only 11C inside the house with a small spppaaaccceee hheeeaatteerr rruunniinngg aallll nniigghhtt iiittss sttiiill ffffrrreeezzziiiinnnngg

Festivus for the rest of us!

24 12 2005

festivus_pole_kit.jpg

This December 23rd our family will gather for Festivus. No phony gift exchange, no tree, no fruit cake or annoying holiday music. Just plain old Festivus.
Out from the crawl space comes the shiny aluminum poll, there is nothing like a bare aluminum poll to celebrate Festivus. Bare aluminum is ideal because it’s very high strength-to-weight ratio and very low maintenance. In the evening our family will gather for the Airing of Grievances, a Festivus tradition for all to vent their hostilities toward each other.

There is nothing more gratifying than telling your loved ones how much they have disappointed you throughout the year.

After the Airing of Grievances we sit down to the traditional Festivus feast of leftover meatloaf and spaghetti with red sauce. Yum. Then we perform the Feats of Strength where the head of the household must be wrestled and pinned to the ground by a chosen family member thus ending festivus.

Happy Festivus from all of us!
